I am currently on a PAYG system  (O2) ==because I hardly use my own mobile.( My wife has a SIM only contract , so I use her phone at home all the time) I believe I am shortly going to have to put £10 credit on , which has to be used within 30 days then it gets wiped. I am aware that before, I had to use the phone within 6 months, but this is off the scale for someone in my position. Any suggestions?

It took some digging to find that info, Tesco obviously wants people to opt for their more expensive plans.

My hubbys phone is on pay as you go O2. No word of having to change. He just makes a call or I do to him and it keeps it alive. He has had this for years his £10 lasts him a long time. 🙈🙈

Barry, the tesco plan for new customers, so would I as a new customer be able to carry over any credit???

That O2 plan is no longer available to new customers

Sharon, not as far as I can tell. According to this the rocket packs last one month

Best to check with Tesco though. I don't think the rocket packs are good value, there are cheaper alternatives

Giggsie--this sounds like the same as  I have (use my phone few and far between)---£10 put on 2 years ago---still have £3 left. I have had a text from O2 saying that they will be changing to  a " monthly top-up" plan (putting £10 credit on WHICH HAS TO USED  IN 30 DAYS!!!)Apparently called a Bundle top-up.--I'll have to go back to smoke signals if I need to contact the wife in an emergency.

Kenny, there are much cheaper plans available though not as cheap as your current onr

Kenny 1234 we have never heard of it do get lots of texts offering a monthly deal. Hubby seldom uses his phone only keeps he says ...just in case...he needs it. But as I said always kept it up just by sending a text from it or making a phone call from or to it. He has had it (not same phone) must be at least 20 years.

>>> "Looks like the days of having credit sitting there until I need it have gone"

While almost everyone using PAYG services these days opts to use 'bundles' (where any unused credit is lost after 30 days), simply because they provide far better value for most people, several service providers still offer the original 'basic' PAYG option (where calls are more expensive but unused credit doesn't expire).

For example, Asda Mobile offers such a system, with calls at 15p per minute and texts at 10p each:
https://mobile.asda.com/rates-and-charges

Your link shows the charges for traditional PAYG SIMs but I can't find anywhere on the website to order such a SIM.  I suspect those charges apply to long standing customers who have had their trad PAYG SIM for some years.

If Asda is offering the trad SIM that doesn't need a monthly payment can you post a link so that it can be ordered?  Gracias, Bueno

^^^ Click on 'No thanks, I just want a free SIM':
https://mobile.asda.com/order-free-sim

I already did, and it shows monthly payments, even for 'talk and text'

'How long does our SIM plans last?'

'All our SIM plans last for one calendar month'

^^^ Does a big red arrow help, Barry?  🤔
