Thames Water
I've just had an email from Thames Water informing me I will be paying an extra £16 per month come April!!! I already pay nearly £800 per year.
This is ridiculous, as pensioners where am I supposed to find the extra. Why should we the customers have to pay for their mess??
At these prices, I feel like leaving my tap running all day.
Anyone else got this missive from Thames Water?

They came said I could only have one if I dug up the back yard, (previous occupant had it paved and cemented). I asked the council and they said I would have to foot the bill. How about putting the water meter in the front garden (grass). Not possible said Welsh Water!! However, on the up side because of their dismass performance I have only had to pay sweage for the last 2 years and nothing for the water. Awaiting this years bill!!!
//Incidentally, a water meter has its own stop tap so, if your usual stop cock is inaccesible or too stiff to turn, you can still cut-off the water to your premises.//
I was told I should have a new meter but the fitter said he couldn't turn off the main stopcock without risking damaging the pipework & causing a terrible leak so he left the old one in place. Says it happens a lot.
Fortunately when I had a new gas boiler the fitter was able to turn off the water with the meter's stopcock.👍
One point to consider, Sharon. Thames may say that it's not possible to fit a meter, for one of several reasons (I note that you live in a flat and that may come into the argument). In that case, they may offer an "assessed tariff" and charge you what a similar property with similar occupancy is charged in your area. It will be way less than you are paying now.
