Scrubbing the remains of my breakfast porridge off an aluminium pot I noticed it's badly pitted.  The missing metal must have been eaten.  Aluminium is said not to be good for ones health.  Time to get a new pot?

But was it always pitted ?  It might have been a design decision.

Is it a flower pot by any chance ?

I've started doing my porridge in a ceramic bowl in the microwave. Works a treat, I hated cleaning the porridge pan.

"Though aluminum pans are considered safe to cook with, there are still some warnings associated with them that all users should follow.

Avoid cooking highly acidic foods, like tomatoes or citrus, for extended periods in aluminum cookware.

Discard aluminum cookware if it shows signs of pitting or damage, as this could increase aluminum leaching. Always follow manufacturer guidelines and use utensils that won’t scratch the surface to prevent increased leaching of aluminum into your food.

Consider using anodized aluminum cookware, which has a protective layer that reduces leaching." [Emphasis added[

Stainless steel is wonderful - one of the best "modern" inventions I think.

I think I read somewhere that aluminium may play a role in dementia.

Time for a new saucepan.

Yes, scrap the pot.   If I'm cooking a lot of porridge I do it overnight in the slowcooker.  If it's just one portion, I make it in the microwave in a pyrex bowl.

Same as Barry. Microwave in pyrex bowl every morning.

Stainless steel pans are marvellous.

For a moment there, I thought gulliver1 was going to contribute sensibly to a straightforward question.
