Skymc Bank Statement

My mother has got a payment of £99 on her bank statement going out to SKYMC.  She has supposedly paid this on her debit card.  She can't remember doing this.  She doesn't have Sky TV, Broadband or anything else.  When I Google it, it's coming up with Minecraft which she most definitely doesn't subscribe to either.  I will of course be going to the bank to sort it but does anyone know what this might be - might just help to jog her memory

Did she receive a phone call asking her to pay such and such, otherwise she was going to be disconnected or some such dastardly scam like thing?

Yes she did receive a phone call from 'Sky' saying her insurance was due (she hasn't got any Sky devices).  She assures me that she just put the phone down.  I think  trip to the bank is in order.

It's not unknown to have subscribed to something (or have it claimed you have) without realising.

Yes indeed.  My niece has now told me that SkyMc is listed as being a Limited Company on the Government's Companies House website, retailing clothes.  However, Mum insists she hasn't bought £99 worth of clothes recently - she certainly hasn't got the clothes to show for it.  I'm going to see what the bank has to say on Monday

She can speak to her bank today, the phones are manned.

One possibility: A common expense nowadays is mobile phone service. At times, carriers neglect to inform their customers that the details of their plans have changed.

I went to the bank yesterday with my mother.  Unfortunately they couldn't give me any more information than I already had: date, amount, who the payment was to.  They asked me to phone the telephone number on her debit card, which I did.  This department could tell me the exact time the transaction happened (2.30pm) but that didn't help.  All they could do was Google SkyMC (like I've already done).  They said there was a business consulting company under that name, which doesn't help.  There is a Sky MC Ltd registered at Companies House which retailed clothes but this company was disolved in November 2024.  'Minecraft' crops up as well.  In the end, they said the case would have to be passed over to the bank's fraud division.  They were very understanding, refunded the £99 and cancelled Mum's debit card.  It's closure, but it's not closure - I'd love to know who SKYMC are.  Anyway, thanks everyone for your support and suggestions

If similar happens again phone the bank immediately, it will be answered 24/7.
