A dirty contact, broken wire, old age, road dirt in the lock mechanism, it needs looked at by somebody who knows what they're looking at.

I have just had the opposite problem , my boot would not lock. I have skoda karoq 2000, so it is not that old. Upshot was they had to run Diagnostics on it and found BCM (body control motor) was not working correctly. Still waiting to have it fixed, but it also meant having the key reprogrammed. Also got to take the spare key to have it reprogrammed when it goes back to Skoda. At least you can lock your car up, I feel very vulnerable with the boot permanently open.

You might be lucky and it will be the physical locking mechanism, so they can just replace that. But I suspect if it is that you going to have to have some reprogramming. A trip to the Citreon garage on the horizon?

Sounds daft but try a hairdryer on it. I have the same problem with one of my car doors in the winter - soon as the weather warms up it's fine

I have no experience of Citreons (or many cars for that matter) but just wondered if you can get into the boot by adjusting the back seat/parcel shelf somehow.

You can if it's a hatchback, OG.

Is there anything trapped in the boot, like a strap, coat or anything. It can affect the mechanism

Got a new key it's been programmed works fine on all four doors, it's just the boot that won't open, yes have been through the back of the seats to get to mechanism, but there's nothing to twiddle just a plastic/metal cover.

There should be a lock button on the dash - engage this and open driver's door and then try boot.

Method 2. Go back into the boot with a screwdriver. There should be a hole on the right hand side of the lock cover - insert screwdriver and twist.
