Infection or Not?

My 14 year old healthy son flew over the handle bars on his bike 7 days ago. He skinned the palms of his hands and his shoulder pretty badly. His palms are healing very well - dry and hard. However, his shoulder has seemed to re-open. It's moist and tender. The slightest touch (even with a Q-tip) makes the wound bleed. Do you think this is an infection? How long does it take a 14 year old to heal? I thought children healed quickly.

If it is like this after 7 days it sounds like an infection. A trip to your nurse at the GP`s probably..
The healing maybe slower due to the fact the wound is on a joint and therefore moves about a fair bit making it harder to heal. Althou seven days sounds a fairly long time so might be best to have things checked out if you are worried

Thank you for your answers! My husband felt that I wasn't giving it enough time to heal, but I thought 7 days was more than enough time. I was especially concerned when it was healing and then became tender and moist all over again. I think we're going to end up paying a visit to the doctor now.
I really think you need to see your doctor it may well be infected xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
