Can You Get A Rough Idea Of Your Energy Performance Certificate (Epc) Your Self

I've got cavity wall insulation, double glazing and loft insulation of about 4 inches.    My combi boiler is about 20 years old

My house is similar to yours. It was a F and was upgraded to C when I had a new boiler

I think you may need to put more insulation in the loft too.  4 inches is well below what it should be.

How old is your loft insulation?

My insulation is more than 10 inches deep.

I'd guess you are rated about D at present. With a new (condensing) combi boiler, 10 inches of loft insulation, low energy light fittings throughout & a check on draught-proofing you would likely go to C but probably not B. My 2 cents.

You can only find your energy rating if your house has been rated. 

Our house is only rated because we paid for it, we didn't have to.

If you bought your property before 2007 it probably isn't rated

Our survey took about 4 hours.

They check your radiator valves are thermostatic; your lights are low energy; where the thermostat for the boiler is; efficiency of your double glazing; where the radiators are sited; type and amount of loft insulation; your immersion heater (if you've got one).

He measured every room, did a floor plan, checked for draughts, damp, mould. Far more than I expected
