On the radio just now they were talking about first records and one guy said he was embarrassed by his. He bought "Shaddap a your face" by Joe Dolce, the record that kept Ultravox off the no 1 spot with "Vienna". Anyone else admit to buying it? Or do you have another embarrassing confession?

Joe Dolce got me into trouble with the housemaster who lived in a flat upstairs in the school I worked in. The children loved that song and would join in at the tops of their voices which upset the housemate's peace.

For the record, I would say Joe Dolce keeping the brilliant Vienna off the top spot is the biggest crime in musical history. 

I remember it so well I was just 12 but it left such a mark that its never left my memory. 

 

Theres been some awful novelty records over the years that reached number 1, but there normally wasn't any decent number 2's

 

So yes Joe Dolce has a lot to answer for.

No embarrassing confessions from here.

1st bought record was 'Island of Dreams' by The Springfields - my dad (born 1903 and a classicist actually bought his own copy for the harmonies).
