I think most people know that mens' sports and womens' sports are different.

However, it shows a deep lack of respect to publicly badmouth a team just because they are women.

^^^perhaps - but did he deserve to lose his job? Granted it was a bloody stupid thing to say, as he must have known that in 2025 you just simply cannot say such things without being hauled over the coals.

But does he have a point?

If you take the average attendences in the WSL compared to the Premiership, it would certainly seem the paying public would agree. Arsenal have a great average attendance of 30,000, but if you take that away as an outlier, the average drops to about 4,000, with Arsenal its almost 7,000. The lowest support is for Everton with an average of about 1,300, whereas the average for Prem Everton is about 40,000.

I've tried, I really have, to give womens football and rugby a go, but frankly I just find it amateurish, crap and boring - so have now given up. The strength, speed and skill shown in the mens games is just an ocean apart. Yes, yes, I get it you shouldn't compare...but its quite dificult not to.

The decision to remove him from his job was taken by his bosses. It may be that they felt he had damaged their 'brand' too much to allow him to stay.

Reading the article, it seems to suggest that there was more to this matter than simply 'dissing' womens' football, though.

He actually said "I am sorry to undermine the whole sport".  a) he was not at all sorry and b) that's the point, he knowingly made a comment that undermined the whole sport purely because the participants are female.  He should have played the ball and not the woman.

Seems very minor to me. But if such isn't desired by the producers then a quiet word should have been sufficient.  Overreaction seems the name of the game these days.

Sorry to disappoint you I'm not a trump(ton) fan.

I'm actually on the sacked mans side.

Girly football is a joke !!imho.

I'm reminded by this of John Inverdale's comment regarding Marion Bartoli at Wimbledon 2013. he'd certainly get cancelled these days for a remark like that.......

You don't have to watch it - it is watched by many who enjoy it.

piggynose - as a WBA fan, I thought you'd be the last one to comment on 'quality football'....

It doesn't matter what you think about the womens' game, you aren't paid to comment on, and be even-handed whilst doing so, any sort of sport whereas Marty Sheargold was.

He's welcome to his opinion, 'freedom of speech' 🤔

Foolish to broadcast that opinion maybe but costing him his job really. For Woke Sake.

On a lighter note Jason Manford on about the players (Men) getting abuse fron the Fans:

My only problem with wimmins football is when the TV listing's just give the team names leading to a quick search for something else to watch.
