Yes, but it'll only work at USB1 speed.

It will work at USB2 if you have an enhanced controller listed in the USB devices, I am not sure how fo3nix knows youhaven't ?
What is the USB periperheral ?

well when someone asks if they can connect a USB2 peripheral via a USB port, if the port was a USB2 port then the questioner would be stupid. assuming they aren't, and they mean USB1 instead of just USB, I end up at my answer ;)
