Sky Cancellation
We are in contract at another address until July, the problem is it is on the old HD boxes that are no longer serviced by sky and they are beginning to fail. The occupier frequently goes weeks without watching as they say they are broken.
Sky have offered to upgrade us to skyQ for free but that would be installing broadband at a possible £28 increase per month meaning we would be paying £82 pm for basic sky and broadband.
I want to cancel the contract but wonder what the fine would be?

Explain that your MiL lives alone (I assume that is true), has dementia and will not be able to operate the SkyQ nor can she afford it. (You pay the bills on her behalf).
Tell them if they are not prepared to repair the existing set up they should cancel the contract at no cost to your MIL. If it is her name on the bill, so much the better, if not, it's still worth a try.
She doesn't currently have any recording facilities as she doesn't have broadband.
Its our name on the contract because we initially bought it as a present and after the first year she said she would take it over (at the time she couldn't get channel 5 because of transmitting issues)
Then she just kept increasing her wants ! Wanted to sit in the back room in the summer and watch tv and the front room in the summer!
we are there tomorrow so will call sky and see what they say.
This is complicated, I hadn't realised - we have Sky+ and I'm aware they push for Sky Q but currently we are happy and can pause, record and playback but our Sky+ has nothing to with our internet/broadband and doesn't need it unless we want to download things..
I tend to agree with a previous poster (Bednobs) - while you are paying for it they should ensure that it works on the current system.
