Hi there

I was at my local Asda self service checkout and spent £25.49. Initially the payment was declined when I paid by phone, contactless. I knew this was rubbish as I had more than enough to pay for it, it said try another card, I didn't have my card only my phone. So I tried again and it went through. There was no mention of it on the receipt as the first attempt being declined. Which is a bit weird. I checked my online account last night and pending transactions there are 2 transactions pending for the same amount. I don't know how this happened. I don't know if Asda can do anything because the declined didn't show up on the receipt. I might have to phone my bank. Has this ever happened to anyone else before.

I would print out the relevant part of my bank statement and take it to Asda when customer services opens. If it's too inconvenient, phone them.

Thanks

I seem to remember something similar happening with one of my cards.  I monitored my statement daily for a few days and it sorted itself out. Try that and, if it doesn't sort itself, your credit card provider is the place to talk to.

I think only one of the pending transactions will go through. But if you are charged twice just tell your card company.

I've just spoken to my wife and we remember it was similar circumstaces to yours - bought some fish & Chips, the card (not contactless) failed, tried again and it worked. Two Pending transactions appeared on the card and just one after 2 or 3 days. Just keep an eye on it - "Pending" is the magic word which means you haven't been charged yet.

Yes bhg but it does affect your available balance, which is annoying

but i will be rectified in a couple of days. even if you phone your bank they can do nothing until the pending sorts itself out.

going to the supermarket will take even longer.

I would never use my phone to pay for goods over a fiver.

It's no diiferent to paying with your card.

I disagree Barry. But we are entitled to our own opinions.

It happened to me at Morrisons on the self-service tills. Said Pending initially but after a couple of days two payments were taken. I went back to Morrisons and they refunded one charge.

You cant so anything until the pendings are finalised. You will probably find that only one is taken. If not see customer services with your reciept for a refund.

Customer services will refund it straight away

But Barry that doesn't mean it will be on your card straight away it depends on how long their bank takes to transfer it to your bank.
