This is a great surprise given the consistent bending over backwards when it comes to illegal immigrants housed in hotels up and down the country.
Could it be that the raid was chosen because of how easy it would be to round up workers on site and the photo opportunities that would arise?
A chance for politicians to show there's no hiding place for illegals, if you don't count the aforementioned hotels that is.
Any EU citizen who started living in the UK on or before 31 December 2020 was eligible to apply to continue living and working here under the EU Settlement Scheme. (The deadline for most application was 30 June 2021).
So Romanians who were already in the UK prior to Brexit can continue living and working here. However (unless they meet the criteria outlined by DDIL) new arrivals from Romania won't have the right to reside or work here.
