I see afternoon tea being advertised all over the place for Mother's Day.

I'm hosting this weekend but haven't quite decided on my menu, but it WILL include scones straight out of the oven with homemade clotted cream and jam.

What is your ideal afternoon tea?

mini quiche

smoked salmon blini

cucumber finger sandwiches (crusts removed)

a savoury pastry

sweet and savoury scones

a strawberry tart

In otherwords lots of pastry lol

Selection of finger sandwiches, ( egg mayo, salmon and cucumber, ham, and maybe coronation chicken) scones jam clotted cream, Selection of mini cakes and mini pastries, probably including chocolate eclairs, Victoria sponge, almond danish, and a classic rich fruit cake.  Maybe some home made shortbread too.  Did all that and more for a retro birthday tea party some years ago,  I was baking for days

Lol, DDIL, I know what you mean about lots of pastry.  I was trying to think of ways to make it less bready!

Rowan - tell me about it!  I was thinking "oh I'll just do that, and then I can do so and so" and before you know it I've got 3 days worth of cooking.

How about spoons or espresso cups with amuse bouche in?

Question Author

I really like that idea but I do not think it would work that well with my guests (bit traditional, even coronation chicken is a step too far.......)!

Can I go - all sounds really lovely.

Oh to be in England & have a crumpet with butter.

Mini sausage rolls
Egg Mayo sandwiches
Pate on crispbread
Fruit scones
Viennese Whirls
Chocolate cake
Mini meringues

Cocktails

A decent sized mug of Yorkshire tea and a four finger KitKat followed by Malbec, or beer if I'm not on a diet.

A selection of sandwiches (not Coronation chicken) and a pot of black tea. Perhaps a few cupcakes too.
