Former Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby says he "forgives" John Smyth. Smyth was a prominent figure in the Church of England  who brutally abused more than 100 boys in the UK and Africa. Welby became aware of Smyth's abuse over a decade ago but turned a blind eye to it.

Surely any forgiveness should come from the victims of the abuse rather than the person who condoned it?

I applaud politicians who just answer the question asked instead of obfuscating and pussyfooting around. But, in this case, I think Justin Welby should have avoided the question and kept his trap shut ...

Gobby little self justifying weasel.

Let's have him stripped of all trappings gained during his sky god period then forget all about him.

Was there ever a more limp, uninspiring, pathetic individual promoted to lead the Church of England?

What an arrogant little man he is.  I watched him on BBC news last night when he said something like 'The problem is people expect their leaders to be perfect', as though that excuses his failings.   No, we expect our leaders to do what's right - and he didn't.

His self-pity and galaxy-sized sense of entitlement and disassociation with anything approaching reality shines through his every utterance.

He is the living embodiment of everything that is wrong with religion in general, and Christianity in particular.

v.v .v complex.

You have to get involved in one of these . Girlie ( er female worker) said Mr Foo as feeling her bottom. "I want it to stop but  I dont want to complain." - -  or he will know  who it is !

this was in the good old days of " you will be believed"

and so what works threshold should be used?

. Here it is a crime alleged and this is obviously a job for the police. Which he did.

so it is identified as a police / criminal issue and not religious.

He needs to  perhaps check that the police have it - - but  the lady in green ( you have to go on badgering even tho told not   to - I think the advice is wrong in law)

Kuennsberg seems not to have done any back ground reading about where Church  procedure touch criminal procedures ( they dont)

and  so a CDM ( clergy disciplinary  measure ) had nothing to to with whether a laywer was  hitting  young kids on  summer  camp.

As for forgiveness - it is entirely religious -  X forgiving Y has nothing to do with Y beating young boys and the police - but really  all parties knew that didnt they.

sense of entitlement and disassociation with anything approaching reality shines

oh come  on come on

If someone said  to His Grace "I have jut been stabbed outside your church" - the  appropriate action is to call the Police and NOT - "o o Let us go inside and pray  fogiveness"
