Yes.

You may well be able to cook them from frozen, Mally, but how would you ascertain cooking time. I batch-cook most of my meals but i normally like to allow them to defrost before re-cooking them.

Coincidentally, i did shepherd's pie yesterday. 4 helpings, 3 of which are now in my freezer.

thankyou for your replies x

If the pie is cooked already, you are not "cooking" it from frozen...you are simply re-heating it. There is a difference!

If you have cooked it already just stick it in the microwave, grill it last thing if you want a bit of crisp on top.

They are quite dense I find do ensure the middle gets warmed properly.  We use a Superfast Thermopen, gives instant temp reading so is useful for things like this getting roasts exactly right, not overdoing fish and of course the good old BBQ.

We have some in the freezer, reckon you have tempted me now for tea :-)

i did it as barry suggested then for the last 20 mins put butter on top and turned oven up to  180 x

Instructions are always to ensure they're piping hot; so put them in the oven with some pipes for them to play when done.

How hot is piping - I think we should be told. So many recipes use such meaningless phrases, add a splash of  being another.

Piping hot’ is a reference to the whistling

sound made by steam escaping

from a hot pie.
