Drop Head Or Coupe.....

In car SOS this week they had a bit of a debate about what is preferable. If you were going to buy a car that had drop head or coupe versions what woould you go for? Personally I've never seen the point of a convertable. If it's hot you want the roof up with AC, if it's cold you want the roof up with the heater on! If it's raining you want the roof up. If it's bright you have the sun in your face all the time from all angles. I just can't think of a scenario when I'd want the roof down.

I'm the same with panoramic roofs - with the blind open in summer it's too hot, with it open in winter it's too cold.

I had a qashqai & kept the roof blind closed permanently.

convertibles are for posing in nice weather...

I just find the sun in my eyes all the time, I don't even like sunroofs.

I've been in a nasty car accident. If I'd been in a soft top I'd be dead.

The morning after a South Indian garlic chili chicken and copious amounts of Cobra.

draught Bass probably creates a rather similar scenario.

I've driven convertibles (same make) for the last 8 years or so simply because I love the car to drive but agree with others, I probably have the roof down mybe 3 times a year. First hint of summer maybe but usully it's too hot to have sun burning on the head or forehead or face, always having to wear a cap. It is a bit posey so I don't do it often.

As a heterosexual male who's past his mid-life crisis, I prefer a coupe - but because I still have a bit of flair, I say coupé 😜

Nothing quite like having the wind blowing through you hair during a nice summer day whilst posing in your car.

Oops, I forgot, this is an English website for old people, forget the nice summer day and the comment about having hair.

Silly me 🤔

Plenty of Scottish, Welsh and Irish here, ozzy. Come to think of it, the only people I see driving with the hood down are well passed middle age.

I had enough breeze in my hair when I was riding my motorbikes

Should have worn a helmet Baz, safety is important

We have a panoramic roof on our car, in the six years we have had i think we have only opened it once fully, that was when we sat in the back one night waiting for a meteor shower to arrive, it was useful for that

Our 'daily' car has a pano roof. Only closed the blind yesterday as my daughter was too warm in the back. AC copes with the sun otherwise.
Convertible occasional car - we wear baseball style caps to keep the sun out of our eyes. Drove from Leeds to Gloucestershire/ Oxfordshire last summer with the top down all the way. Likewise back again. Zero issues.

Ditto ChatPGTips we have a panoramic roof car and a roadster except I haven't driven from Leeds to Gloucester and back.

I don't like motorway driving with the top down but that's more to do with fumes etc and it makes you realise the standard and speed of others driving somehow rather than in a saloon car.  And of course everyone is much "taller" than you!

I have an MX5 as a second car and it HAS to be a converible.

Other than if raining the top is down all year!
I love the freedom and fresh air, and only the sky above.
I get the roof bit for a familoy or everyday car but for relkaxation or holidays it MUST be a soft top.

Probably the same reasons folk like to be out in the garden enjoying the sun on a nice day rather than peering out at it from the lounge window.

Plus you get no wind whipping around your head with the top on.
