A dustman who calls himself a Garbologist for instance.  We once met a couple on holiday - she was 'in fashion' she said loftily, and he was 'in furniture'.  Truth was she worked in a dress shop and he was part of a crew of removal men.   We did laugh.

Any amusing tales of Great Pretenders?

One of my mother's friends was a Textile Technician.  A  weaver.

We always like the job descriptions on Eggheads - a retail sales executive might be a shop assistant etc. It's fun trying to guess what the job really is.

Domestic engineer  = housewife. Why on earth my Hyacinth of a sis-in-law thought being a domestic engineer sounded better, I have no clue.

Both my father and Grandfather did the opposite.

My Grandfather (born in 1855) labelled himself a bobbin maker wheras in fact he owned the factory/mill with his father.

My father always called himself a draughtsman whereas he was a very senior aircraft design enginer.  Concorde etc.

People often describe themselves as "software engineers", I was merely a computer programmer.

My uncle was a dustman. His wife would only say 'he works for the council'.

I once met a mod; mind you that was in the sixties.

My lofty acquaintance had a new man friend who was a concierge.
Turns out he worked for the council cleaning the stinky lifts and stairwells in the local tower blocks; and tending to the refuge area.

In a previous life I was a Community Education Worker.  Nobody knew what this was, so when asked what I did I just said I filled shelves at Tesco.

I knew a girl who said she gave blow jobs - she was a Lady's Hairdresser.

Researching back through the Answerbank records reveals that you, Naomi24, have often gone against your own principals, especially where politics are concerned, and even more so concerning Donald Trump, you have directly contradicted yourself.
