The latest on this is that the American govt has said they don't want him back.

This is despite the fact that:

1. There's no evidence he's done anything wrong.

2. There was no legal process. He was effectively just disappeared off the street and taken to El Salvador.

3. They have admitted they made a mistake in deporting him.

4. The supreme court had said they must facilitate his return.

The Russians might take an interest because they rarely have the chance to work on behalf of an innocent man and at the same time embarrass the Americans.

He's a Salvadoran citizen, their president has said he won't return him and I cannot see the Russians being bothered.
