I watched the magnificent sight this morning of a pair of white storks, probably just arrived from either Spain or North Africa.

Superbly gliding round and around. I just looked them up in the book and their wingspan is 66" (almost 2 metres!) A wonderful sight, but I nearly ricked my neck I was so spellbound. 😊

Don't think they ever get over to the British Isles, has anyone ever seen them?

I've seen them abroad.  Their huge nests on rooftops are a sight to behold.   Something a big different in the Americas - condors - the size of light aircraft soaring above.  Wow!!

ladybirder, I wish that initiative success. They are in folklore connected with the bringing of new-born babies, I've no idea why, but they look capable of carrying one.

Watching them in flight gave me an uncanny sense of enjoyment and peace.

If you drive from the Algarve to Lisbon you will see Stork nests along one stretch of road on all the large electric pylons. Some have six to eight nests on them

Tavira is a great place to see storks, flamingos, egrets and other wetland birds

I have also seen storks in Selçuk, Türkiye
