Pope Puts Architect Antoni Gaudí On Path To Sainthood

//Gaudí - who has been dubbed by some as "God's architect" - is the designer of one of Spain's most famous religious sites and tourist attractions, the unfinished Sagrada Familia basilica in Barcelona.

On Monday, the Vatican issued a statement which said Pope Francis had authorised a decree declaring the Catalonia-born architect "venerable".

That is an early step on the road to a candidate for sainthood being formally canonised by the Catholic Church. In the case of Gaudí, who died in 1926 after being hit by a tram while walking to church, the Vatican would likely require proof of a miracle that could be attributed to him post-death in order to proceed with beatification. //

A worthy contender - or a step too far?

He works in mysterious ways.🤣

Best commentary on the Catholic church IMV is "Father Ted".

Some might say that not being finished 100 years after the death of the architect suggests a staggering level of cowboy buildership.

"We'll be round on Tuesday love".

His archtecture is crumbling krap

I suppose the Pope is qualified to know whether he should be a saint.  What I can say is that he was a genius of an architect ...

Oh come on, Khandro.  It's unique.

It's the rooting around for a miracle that I find bemusing.

The concept of beatification is an outmoded idea in the modern world, part of the Catholic church's rigid determination to live in the past for ever.

this chap's been hanging on for a while:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Johnson_(martyr)

it's canonisation for a sainthood...

All complete nonesense. Love his work though.

The idea of sainthood is fairly meaningless anyway. It's just the RC church awarding something from their "honour" system. I doubt it cuts much ice with any deity that may exist.  Saint architect is as important as any other saint. Or as unimportant for that matter.

I'm sure the late, unlamented, Jimmy Savile had some kind of a Papal honour.

He was never on the path to sainthood, thank gawd, but still..

The more |I think about this (and it's not occupying my every waking moment) the more mental it becomes.

He made drawings so that other men could pile stones on top of each other, eventually, then he died.

The kneelers have certainly lowered the bar.
