Does anyone else use the handle of a tea spoon to peel their hard boiled eggs?

And..how do you prepare your spring onions for a salad? Apart from cutting off the rooty end , do you also peel off the outer layer of the stem or just leave them as is?

Got one brainiac, never actually used it though.

The only close family members that I have left, all live in Germany, and I came home with one, after loads of many visits about 15 years ago.

It's been sat there, in the same place, in the same drawer, for all those years. Must give it a try.

Eggs - I remove them from the saucepan and plunge them into cold water. I cracked the shells and put them back into the cold water. I leave them for a few minutes while I chop my spring onions, then I change the water for another cold blast.  I peel them now using the side of my thumb, no fingertips or nails involved.

Eggs:  I roll them firmly on the worktop until cracked all round then peel off the shell.

Spring Onions: For salad I cut off the root and remove most of green leaves.  For cooking I leave all but the outermost green leaves on and chop finely.

Why is it i can remove the shell cleanly and easily from some boiled eggs while others it's very difficult without a load of egg white comes off with it?

You have to make sure that you get that inner layer of 'skin' off with the first bit of shell Dave then the whole shell will come off cleanly. My Mum always used to say that egg shell was one of the most clever packages in the world

I put them in a small jar or mug with a little water - then shake shake shake, shake shake and the shell just falls off.

Tilly - I have 2 spoons kept saparately from the others to peel eggs.  They have nice flattened out ends to the handles.

Dave50 - generally if the eggs are very fresh they are not so easy to peel.

I do my eggs in the Instant Pot.  5 mins high pressure, 5 mins natural pressure release, 5 mins iced bath and they peel perfectly everytime.
