“There will be an Annualar Eclipse of the Sun in August 2026. Don't miss it!”
Beware that there will be two solar eclipses in 2026.
On February 26th there is an “annular” eclipse visible only in parts of Antarctica. Annular eclipses are nothing to do with “yearly. They are total eclipses which occur when the moon is at its furthest distance from the Earth. Because it is further away its apparent size is smaller and it does not cover the sun entirely, the moon’s shadow not reaching the Earth so totality is not achieved. Instead the Sun appears as a very bright ring surrounding the dark disk of the Moon. The eclipse takes its name from the Latin “anulus” meaning a ring. At the same time as the annular eclipse occurs, a partial eclipse will be visible from other parts of the Earth. In 2026 it will be visible in the rest of Antarctica, Africa, South America, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, and Indian Ocean
On August 12th a total solar eclipse will be visible in Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Russia, and a small area of Portugal, while a partial eclipse will be visible in Europe, Africa, North America, the Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean, and Pacific Ocean.
