Reversing Into Car Park Spaces

I know this has probably been asked before?

why do drivers reverse into parking spaces in supermarket car parks so the boot space is inwards, usually right next to another car?

this means you cannot often get a full trolley next to the boot and have to carry everything along the side of the car risking scratches and other damage.

Surely it is easier to drive in, load up and reverse out?

humans baffle me sometimes.

That's right, because some people reverse in!

I called at my local Lidl this morning, drove into a space & reversed out of it. Didn't encounter any problems.

Exactly, it's not hard ...

Driving into a car parking space when there are vehicles parked in the spaces on either side is less of an issue if there is ample room on the 'road' to allow you to take a wide sweep into the parking space.

I've had time to file my nails while waiting for a driver to reverse out of a space in the shopping centre  car parking space , where i visit  frequently

A lot depends on the width of the parking spaces and the width of the 'road' to the opposite group of spaces

I have witnessed countless times where cars reverse out of a car park, and narrowly missing people that walk by not realising the car is attempting to reverse out.

Also narrowly hitting into another car.

I can honestly see why reversing into a car space is company policy where I work from a safety aspect.

Obviously from a convenience point of view if your about to reverse up to a wall, it can be difficult accessing the boot space.

But normally theres no wall, and its lazy just to drive in. Especially when your reversing out, it must play on your mind that you wished you reversed in right?

//it must play on your mind that you wished you reversed in right? //

If something so trivial "plays on your mind" I think you need to see a therapist!🤣

davebro3,

Its seems crazy, but I have actually driven into a supermarket car park space before in my lifetime, yet I end up regretting it when it comes to reversing out, especially when you have pedestrians and other cars unaware of me trying to edge out, plus I have a lot less visible aspect of what's going on behind my car.

But compare that to reversing into a space, everyone around me, plus me are more aware of what I am intending to do.

So it really is much safer to reverse park.

if you want people to notice you you could put your hazard lights on....

I just have my valet step into the space behind and stop traffic then make my move.

Simple.

We have our shopping delivered, it's more cost effective than driving to a supermarket.

douglas9401,

But how can you do that if your on your own?

Quenched what is the difficulty with reversing out of a parking space that you struggle with?
