Surely the value of the coins are not more than the purchase price .

Do you mean the commemorative coins? They are usually worth much less than the purchase price

But if the reason you're short of the readies is spending on such things, it may appeal to cut your losses at this point.

What's the point  unless you see it as an investment that will bear fruit in a few hundred years for your descendants 

 

 

 

It's the same as all the limited edition collectibles advertised on TV such as plates. They are not investments

The basic rules are, if something is designed as a collectable, it's not collectable.

What's the attraction  then ?

they are just trying to sell things to people who think they are collectable and will one day be worth something.

There's been a few people on programmes like Rip Off Britain who feel they were ripped off by the likes of the Franklin Mint

My mum fell for all the stories and I inherited plates, ornaments etc when she and then my dad died.

That was three cats ago.  Luckily, many items have been batted off shelves and sent to the afterlife. 😂  The cats, alas, are there too.
