"Those selling the plugs often claim they can save customers money on their electricity bills by “stabilising” voltage and “balancing” the electric current to “optimise” the performance of household appliances." - right oh!

If you knows nothing about technology you night believe that.

There are adverts on  YouTube for electric fires which can heat an entire house for pennies, or so they claim.

Whatever happened to the Kite mark? (At least I think it was the kite mark)

If the item didn't have it, it shouldn't be sold or used in the UK?

There used to be a website with a young American guy showing various ways of obtaing all kinds of services for nothing. One was showing you how to obtain subscription channels on your tv for free. The way you did it was to take 5 cd's and space them one inch apart from each other, tape them on the outside keeping them an inch apart, then  feed your TV ariel cable through the centre holes to recieve subscription channel for free! Of course it was just a wind up. He also told you that if you wrote to the POTUS, and told him you were a decent citizen, you should receive a state payment of $5,000 as a reward, then he would send it to you! Can't remember the name of the site but he had lots of things like that on it.

As they say "One born every minute".

I was surprised to see such things advertised. Are there not laws about truth in advertising in the UK ?

Can't imagine anyone would be daft enough to buy one though. Except those planning to do an exposé perhaps.

Was it the first gulf war that some guy came up with an IED detector? It had a lot of flasing lights etc and looked the part. Apparently the US military ordered 100s of them! PMSL! Might be rowlocks!

Those UK safety compliance marks and symbols are very often faked on cheap illegal imports

cheers tomus, that's the one!

Given the number of people who thought Brexit would be a good idea, I’m surprised that more similar such products aren’t advertised to the UK public.

get help hymie.

It was a box on the end of a stick with some flashing lights on it.

I mean furfurksake.

Hymie has a point to be fair. Maybe not about brexit but about how people are unrelentingly gullible.
