A thousand thanks, Huggles, 'twas doing my head in. I knew that lucky dips were originally stuffed in a box of sawdust. I guessed that the second word was tub (tab-teb-tib-tob...), but b_a_ had me baffled: boat, beat, bear, brat... only one letter off with brat...

The crossword is now complete.
I've never used this site before, & I'm pleasantly surprised that altruism still exists.
