Thankyou so much Ethel. (I used to have a brilliant auntie of that name). Your solution worked perfectly.
Could I ask you to go a little farther? The postscript to the question was , is there a way to clean up for the whole computer at once instead of having to do it for each user? PM

It's a good point but I don't know the answer. I have googled and it does not seem possible, simply because you could be interfering with other users browsing.

It doesn't seem right though that another user could be causing problems with the computer. I shall keep it in mind, and if I find a proper answer, I'll get back.

I'm hoping some techie whizz kid will come up with a simple solution though. :)
I have had a thought but don't know if it would work.

The administrator could turn all the user accounts off (in the control panel) and then run the maintenance programmes.

Once done, switch the users back on.
