ive recentley moved into my own house, not to good at the cooking bit but invited my parents and brother round for christmas dinner. any ideas on how i can make it that bit special
Invite your Mum to do the cooking - let's face it, whatever you do it won't be the way she would like it done so she may just as well do it in the first place and then she can't complain!
Megsy - My little niece said "B's not a very good cooker" - and I definitely am not - so I invent things from time to time that I CAN make - here are a couple of pies I have gotten compliments on - in case you need to make some easy dessert :)
Bs Cherry Pie
Put everything in the fridge and let it get cold - yes even the Cherry Pie Filling.
1 - Graham Cracker Crust
1 can Cherry Pie Filling (chilled in the fridge)
1 pack Jello Instant Pudding Cheesecake Flavor
Mix up the pudding I usually use a little less milk than the directions say pour it in the crust. Put in the fridge until it sets up 5 minutes or more.
Spoon on the Cherry Pie Filling and spread it out.
You can decorate the top with Cool Whip if you want to but it doesnt need it for the taste.
Bs Chocolate Pie
1 - 8 Chocolate or Graham Cracker Crust
1 pack Chocolate Chips
1 Can Eagle Brand Milk
1 Small Pack Philadelphia Cream Cheese or Big One
1 teaspoon Vanilla
Pinch of Salt
In a bowl mix the Cream Cheese and the Eagle Brand. Put it in the microwave and get it hot usually 2 minutes in my microwave they are all different. Stir in the Chocolate Chips (they will totally melt), vanilla & salt.
Pour it into the Chocolate Cookie or Graham Cracker Crust (I use the Keebler Hersheys Chocolate Cookie Crust from the grocery it is the best for this pie).
DONT EAT IT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY it shouldnt make a difference in the taste, but it does!!! If you wait 2 or 3 days it is even better than that!!!
Get a Turkey Crown, easier to cook (doesn't taske so long) and carve,
Buy a ready made pudding,
Prepare the veg the night before.
Decorate the table before everyone arrives
I always give plenty of choice Couple of different starters
Smoked salmon or pate Turkey or/and pork all the trimmings plus a good selection of veg Puddings Christmas pud (tesco) Chocloate cake Apple pie(both made the day before ) choice of Brandy sauce (packet) Custard and cream Followed by cheese and biscuits
Make the table look special this can be set the evening before That make me feel hun
Megsy - here in the USA all the major supermarkets sell complete and just cooked for you dinners for Christmas - you just place your order if you want them to do it for you - they usually have a choice between a ham or a turkey and the sides and breads - all you have to do is pick it up - put it in your own serving dishes and pour the drinks :) I am sure some of them do it there - if not some of the restaurants then?
Please let us know if we have given you anything that helps you or if we need to continue trying please. Thanks for your help. BBWCHATT
