I find this new Doctor Who annoying to the 'N' th degree. His mannerisms, the way he hold the pout on his mouth when he speaks, his mad staring eyes. Yes, the doctor is to be portayed as eccentric, but this guy just grates. sorry.

Sorry Booldawg, I've got to disagree with ya on this one. I've been watching Dr Who since he was played by John Pertwee and I absolutely love the bloke!

Tom Baker was Dr Who for me. But then again Roger Moore was James Bond for me and totally no-one agrees with that!

David Tennant is the only reason I started watching Doctor Who. (Swoon , faint) My dad , brother and hubby always watched Doctor Who but I could never seem to get into it. Then along came the rather pleasing piece of eye candy Mr Tennant and I was hooked - not just for watching him but I found that I enjoyed the programme too. It doesn't hurt the ratings having a handsome actor playing the lead role either i'll bet.

Got to disagree as well i think David Tennant is excellent actor and portrays the Dr Who character very well, just as Tom Baker was the only real Doctor of my era, i think David Tennant is, and will be in this one.... my boys cover thier eyes when watching this latest series, how i laugh, when i think back...that was me..!!!

Tom Baker was also my favourite. Each doctor has their quirks and when Ecclestone left I thought no one could replace him but I must confess that I've taken a real liking to Tennant's doctor. I like his Bakerish humourism.

tom baker is the doctor i grew up with and is my fave but i thought ecclestone was excellent too bringing a real feeling of pain to the doctor but tennent is too ott & happy for me...you dont get any sense of dread when he is in peril.

Have to agree with enigma, David Tenant is very fanciable, especially after he was Casanova. Have always watched Dr Who and liked all of them except perhaps Tom Baker who was over the top but this one is in a different league!!! Let's hope we can keep him for a while.

being an old bird i watched it when Fraser Hines was the heartthrob! (He played Jamie, a sidekick in a kilt and he was gorgeous) I think the way they have sexed up the Doc from him being portrayed as a old eccentric to a trendy dishy guy is great.

No, I disagree too, I really like Tennant. I'd seen him on stage a few times then really enjoyed him as Casanova so was very pleased when I heard he'd been cast as the Doctor. I can understand some of the misgivings stated above but they don't bother me - and I prefer the characterisation of this doctor compared to Ecclestone's who often didn't have anything to do with the solutions to the stories. I think it's right to not have the Doctor solving everything all the time, but Ecclestone went too far down that road. This current Doctor is more of an arrogant, know-it-all type and I think that works well, he's also more of an action figure than Ecclestone was. It needs that change of character - perhaps the next Doctor will be more vulnerable.

I don't think McCoy was the worst - didn't you ever see Colin Baker?! It has to be said those doctors were ill-served by increasingly crappy storylines and decreasing interest from the BBC. Its revival must be one of the greatest TV success stories ever.

You can't really blame the actors as they were given the script and Eccleston was told to have a injured characterisation. Though I still disagree with Booldawg as DT is good.

For my part I certainly didn't mean to imply it's the actors' fault, yes Ecclestone was given those storylines and he had to tie his characterisation to that but that aside the actor does have some say in what he does with the role in terms of interpreting what he's given. I thought Ecclestone did a good job, I just think Tennant is doing a better job with a better characterisation.
