Why should we have multi culturlism? Nobody cares about it. It's being forced on us by the social worker types and the govt.

People just want to get on with their lives don' they?

It doesn't matter.

It can work, but not the way its been, and being promoted in this country at present.

If people just got on with their lives, adhered to the laws of the host country, and appreciated the better lives they have, this would once again be a great country to live in.
If this was a public vote mine would be a no. People naturally draw to similar ones, and the variations you find when all squashed together in London barely understand each other, let alone mix. Being party to some multicultural conversations where certain origins were not known, the new cultures have little or no respect for the indigineous or other newer arrivals, and simply tolerate them in order to have a better life.
Australia has pointed the alternative way and if they can take it then maybe others will follow.
I don't! People can come here, they can befriend me if we meet, I will personally give them the same hosipitality I would any human being, The UK has laws and everyone who lives here should stick by them, I am currently really angered by my local minority ethnic group of british asians who have used the UK to get where they are and yet also use their ancestry as a reason to blame and get more. I'm going to stop answering these questions as I feel my anger growing when I do and I don't think that is healthy. We have many other afrocaribean romanian etc peole who are ethnic minorities living on the breadline, but nobody cares a jack.
There is nothing wrong with multi-culturalism. All cultures are different and everyone should be proud of their own background and heritage. Indeed, different cultures usually learn from, and enrich, each other.
However, many of the world's problems in the past and present stem from one culture refusing to recognise or respect other cultures and their differences. There have always been mis-guided efforts to force different cultures into one mould and that is where much of the hate, murder and misery in the world is rooted. Another root stems from one culture regarding itself as the ideal and then trying to force their model upon what they see as inferior or oppressed peoples. We can see that all around us now.
Peace and harmony will only come from cultures living side by side - but recognising and respecting that other cultures are different. People of different cultures think and act differently and we are not all the same.
surely multi culturalism working would be people just getting on with their lives and coming from different cultured but living together peacably.

i don't really understand what you mean by "have" multiculturalism. Its not like the govt. has decided that mulitculturalism is some kind of initiative and is importing people from other cultures for our benefit. Its just the way the world is going with immigration and so on.

do you mean the government is forcing mulitculturalism on us by letting other cultures come to, and exist, in Britain?

What do you mean?
lizzie, I agree, I was wondering that too. Something gets a convenient label slapped on it, usually by either the media or some academic, and you then have an instant "thing" that can be blamed, waved like a flag, used as a beating stick or an aunt sally. Mix in some vague woolly thinking, e.g. along the lines of the notion that it's being forced on us by some "types" (in this case, social-worker types, apparently), half-bake it, and there you have it - a ready-made AB gripe. I'll say one thing, though - "social worker types" makes a change from the phrases normally used, such as "the do-gooders" and "bleeding-heart liberals".
Multiculturalism. Whose definition ?The hate someone everydaily Mail, BNP news?

I just live in Southall, chose to move here, get the benefits like wonderful eateries, polite kids who offer me their seat on the bus (embarrasing) and no mobs of white skins on the corner as I had in my old place (im 70)

Leave what I dont want, like rhe horrible Toofal beer (Faux Indian) my pub sells.

Romanians on benefit, how come thought not part of EU yet. Very grateful to the African doctor who did my eye operation though.
