Bit of a long shot

I remember watching a TV drama about 18 years ago or so. I was only little and for some reason was watching TV by myself, quite late at night I think. Anyway, all I can remember is that it centred around a middle-aged woman who was bedridden and eventually died at the end. I can't remember what it was exactly, but I found something very scary and disturbing about it and I couldn't sleep for ages. At the time I was convinced that the actress in it was Pat Phoenix from Corrie, but when I told my Mum the next day she said I was wrong. I think it must have been shown on ITV as there were commercial breaks, and I can remember at each break there was a still shot of a little tiny window with a wilting flower in a plant pot in it. Any ideas? I know it's not information to go on but I'd love to know what it was and why it scared me so much, and why it's always haunted me. Many Thanks in advance

In 1986 there was a series of seven TV plays produced under the title "Unnatural Causes" by Central (ITV). The fifth episode, written by Lynda La Plante and shown 15th November 1986, was called "Hidden Talents" and starred Pat Phoenix in her final TV role recorded before her death from lung cancer on 18th September 1986.

A synopsis of the plot for this drama, as given by the BFI website, states:

Stanley (Tom Georgeson) disappeared after the mysterious death of a girl in a nearby wood. Now he returns to his home where his bedridden mother (Pat Phoenix) is tended by his older brother Harold (Tom Bell).
