I am what's known as a 'credit card *****' and switch my credit card debt from 0% card to another 0% card when the interest free period runs out.

This used to be every 6 months, now it's looking to be every 9-12 months. I'm very good and I always make a payment. I'm so good that they keep increasing my credit limit.

My question is, if I keep getting new cards, only make one application per period so not many footprints are left on my record, am a reliable payer and always close down the old account will I be penalised in any way for moving my debt around, on my credit file?

You may be penalised as the credit card companies are not making one penny out of you, so you are not the customer they want.

It may become difficult for you to get new cards, but it should not affect your ability to get a mortgage or other long term loan.
