I'm going out for cocktails to celebrate my 30th birthday and need some suggestions as to what to ask for. I don't know much about cocktails at all so would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Here in the USA - martinis are the most popular cocktails right now - any flavor - chocolate, apple, etc.

Long Island iced tea sounds really nice, will have to try one of those! And believe it or not i have reached the ripe old age of 30 and never had a Martini!

I'll go with either the long island iced tea(my favourite) or a good martini BUT beware especially of the former as it's often served as a long drink and it just slips down too easily!I have seen a girl out cold after drinking two of them a bit quick on a hot day in the carribbean so take care but ENJOY can I join the party too as I'm 66 I've got a bit of experience

Pina Colada is my favourite (very fruity, bit like an alcoholic smoothie!)! But there are some other really nice ones such as Black Russian as said above you can also get a white russian which i think is cream instead of the coke & an irish version of these which substitutes the vodka for baileys as far as i know.
There's a really nice cocktail which Hard Rock Cafe do which is Pickled Tink (but havent had it anywhere else), its frozen strawberries and im not sure what else but it's delicious.
i've had some nice cocktails at TGI friday's before aswell.. Silver Mercede's is delicious!
Coco Loco is a really nice cocktail too, but only really if you like coconut!

Depends what kind of drinks you like really, if you prefer 'fruity' ones or ones where you can taste the alcohol more (i dont really like the strong tasting ones, and really dont like Martini's me and my friends consider a martini to taste like alcohol sea water!!). its all down to preference!

ooh another quick note.. there's a shooter (which is like a cross between a shot & a cocktail) called liquid Bubblegum which tastes delicious - but only if you like bubblegum! its bright blue & tastes just like bubblegum!
