Yes but it will run slow and not heat up as much so may be ineffective.

Just about every hotel/motel in the US has hairdryers in the rooms - not worth taking it.
You will need a universal adapter, which you can get from the travel accessories rack of any supermarket for around five pounds.

But is it honestly worth the bother? It will take up valuable weight and space in your luggage. If you don't intend staying in a hotel, you can buy a hairdryer for a few dollars and leave it behind when you leave.
Beware! some types of hair doo's in America are totally incompatible with uk type hairdryers. seriously though like sexy_jag says,leave it and buy one there cheap (which is is) and use the space to take advantage of bringing back fantastic and cheap stuff! (but non hairdryer!)
No point taking it as it'll be as effective as someone breathing gently on your hair to dry it! I found this out to my peril!

Well, perhaps peril is too strong a word for it.
Just use the hotel dryer in a drawer, it's quicker.
