Chilies are actually good for you. They benefit both the blood and the blood vessels, and have loads of vitamin C and carotenoids, such as Lycopene -which are antioxidants.
Having said that, and having grown up in a mexican neighborhood, I feel ya on the pain.
I can only say that I've taken to cutting my chilies more finely, mixing them more into the food [theory being that the nearby foods protect alimentary membranes from direct contact-sorry if too graffic]
And, although I hate to say it, reducing the amount I eat of the really hot chilies in one sitting.
Oh, and chilies are addictive. Should be on the internet somewhere.
Another idea: An Indonesian chili sauce called Sriracha [has a rooster on the bottle] is very full-flavored because of garlic, and although not terribly hot, can be a delicious, painless alternative.
Okay, and I'm just telling it like it is, flashpig -the alternative mentioned above makes going to work or riding public transportation much easier -if you know what I mean.
