Blows on 3, speeds 1 and 2 don't blow. I think it will be the resistor, or switch. Questin is where is the resistor in the car?

The resistor is part of the switch.

thanks
I would have a look in a Haynes manual and at the Rover forum (do a Google on Rover Forum). I have a Rover 218TD and like many of the Rover Group cars, there is a resistor pack on the heater blower motot. The resistors are coils of wire and they tend to "pack up" after a time.

Thanks for that, unfortunately there is no manual for a Rover 45. I would imagine it's similar to other models, the way manufacturers don't like to spend money developing new bits when old bits will do. I hadn't thought about the forum idea, so many thanks for that idea. I'll give ita look after
I was really after info on where it's situated, so I don't have to pull bits off unnessessarily (?) .
Thanks again
Common problem on Rovers. Drop the glove-box lid and remove the two screw under the hinges to remove the lid. Behind that is the heater unit. You should see a connector going into a 4-5 inch block with 2 or three screws holding it in. This is the resistor pack that controls the fan speed. 1 and 2 usually burn out as the ceramic coating on the coils burn off over time. Should be about 30 for a new one. Same as a Honda Civic 5dr 94-99 one. (same basic car)
Hello again.

Slippery is correct in saying where it is located. You should be able to change it in about 15 - 20 minutes

If you go to the MG/Rover Forum you will find a lot of stuff on there about the subject, including how to make your own resistor pack for quite a bit less than buying a new one.

Good luck.
