Food is literally a matter of taste - maybe you need to widen your diet, and try eating in other places - you can find good and bad food anywhere in the world, it's down to what you eat, and where.
begs the question what is "English food"?
I guess we're talking Shepards Pie, Cottage Pie, Cornish Pasty, Cumberland Sausage, Lancashire Hot Pot, Black Pudding (and Haggis if you want to talk "British" food) here, to name but a few. It is all simple, economical and sustaining "working" food originally. High energy, balanced food for hard-working folks in the fields and down t'mines that used local and seasonal produce. As Andy says it is a matter of taste. Such food does not translate well to today's current obsession with light, trendy, cosmopoilitan, continental style foods however. But who is to say tastes are not cyclical - British food may make a comeback someday! ;-)
because we are criminally unimaginative.
English food is disgusting because of a secretive and subversive campaign from the French Board of Tourism. But surely you had come to suspect this, non?
