No doubt about the 'c' John Alex. The clue that gives it is "Instead, changed first, to 'aversion'" - answer, DISTANCE (anag of instead with first letter of changed)

Try DISTASTE . . . . in 'STEAD' changed + '1st' (IST)

I would say 'titbit' is definitely correct. Your clue might work like this: "In 'stead' changed plus 'ist' (= 'first'), ie anag. of 'steadist', which could give 'distaste', which = 'aversion'. How would that do? Good luck!
