urban nightmare films

Does anyone know any good urban nightmare films,you know dark city street settings,people being chased through the dark deserted streets and that kind of stuff.Ive seen alot of these but was just wondering if there was any unknown gems out there preferably set in the 80s
examples-

Judgement night
escape from new york
after hours
the warriors
vamp
death wish

Seem to remember the housing project flats being seriously creepy.

I think you really want to start looking at some French fims. The French were still making good cop films in the 80s and I recommend:

La Balance
Le Cop
Le Cop II
Les Valseuses

Most of these had urban settings and were still gritty, long after Hollywood had gone glossy.

However, any of Scorcese's films ought to fit your bill, and also David Lynch's movies. Check them out on the Internet Movie Database.

It's not set in the 80's, but I recommend 'Creep' if you're looking for a film that's like a nightmare. A lot of people seem to hate it but I would definitely say it's got a nightmarish quality. No being chased through deserted dark streets though - lots of being chased through deserted dark tube train tunnels though!

"Four pals are on their way to a boxing game, but gets stuck in heavy traffic. To get to the game in time they take the first exit they find to find another way to the game. The four pals get away the first time, but the killer is soon back on their tail again while they are trying to find help in the middle of nowhere."
