Wedding reception with a difference!

My daughter and her fiance are just starting to arrange their wedding . They would like their reception to be different to the norm. It will be held in a marquee on our farm. Any good ideas anyone?

Skip the normal traditions or vary them eg have a number of shorter speeches by friends and such rather than just the the normal ones.

Have a "diary room" where people can go in and leave video messages for you that you can have as a keepsake.

Leave disposable cameras on the tables so the guests can take piccies themselves. Make sure you make it clear that they are to be left so people don't nick off with them.

My friends did a wedding album with each page marked with a space for a photo and passed it round all the guests with a disposal camera so they could write a personal message in for them and take a pic of themselves to put in the space once they developed the film.

What about something like a hog roast rather than a normal sit down meal where you can do loads of roast potatoes and such. We did this in a barn for my exes brother's birthday, did up a barn with fairy lights and such and old sofas and comfy chairs and music and had a bonfire outside with fireworks.

Be inventive with the music, hire a local band or such rather than just a DJ, there are some fantastic ones about.

You may even be able to get guests up to sign with them and such. You could even do something like a Ceildh or a barn dance.

Fancy dress or theme is a possibiity such as medieval or pick a past decade.

Trivia can be cute, such as a little box on each table with questions in such as ones about the bride and groom, maybe even a party wide one which is bound to get people laughing.

A funny slide show or video of the bride and groom through their lives from babies then with them meeting and such with interesting and funny anecdotes, also something they can then keep and a lovely surprise for them.

How about something memorable such as a planting ceremony, each guess plants something like a lovely rose or baby tree for the couple to grow with their marriage.

A James Bond theme with Shirley Bassey type singer and black tie and tiara evening do, lots of class, champage, martinis and such. Get servers to dress up to serve people.
