They're still allowed to smoke in their lunch breaks and outside of work hours.

I have more sympathy with these guys:

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-233 74574-details/Family%20snaps%20banned%20from%2 0tax%20office%20desks/article.do

After all having a picture of your family on your desk never did anyone any harm - even passively

- although I suppose if they were really ugly people might get depressed!
Just read that JTP, unf**king beliveable, am speechless. As a civil servant, if someone told me to remove a banana from my desk they might find they had to rermove it form somewhere else instead. The world has gone mad!
Human Rights Act?

Quite frankly, it stinks of a cheap redundancy plan.
Just where exactly did these people think they get the right to impose their views on others ?
I dont smoke and I dont like people smoking around me - ex-smokers the worst ! however I really cant agree with this.
What is it next, wait until lunch for a cr*p ??
I can see the merits of a tidy desk , if for example you are
' hot desking ' -afterall who wants to work at a desk where the previous occupant's left over lunch is still there ?

Also if there is , for example ,files kept on the desk that other people will need to access , then it makes it easy for all concerned - doesn't it ?

As for photographs on desks - I have no problem , if the desk is a dedicated one .
Smoking is a habit which I don't think the employer needs to be forced to allow you to indulge. I happen to be addicted to masturbating. Should my employer be obliged to allow me w*nk breaks.

By the way I only masturbate after meals. I'm currently on 47 meals a day.
Sorry, but whenever smoking crops up I have to begin my argument with "as an asthmatic..."

As an asthmatic, though, I just feel that almost anything that makes people stop smoking cannot be entirely bad, because frankly, no-one deserves ******-up lungs, especially passive smokers. And don't give me **** about people's rights- no-one has a "right" to smoke, and no-one needs one.

For once, I actually agree with jake-the-peg. LEAN? ******* joke. Almost makes me want to swear more than the smoking issue does.

Hammer Head- hammering one's head is indeed a fun way to pass the time, but I recommend cutting down on that. It's not carcinogenic, but it does play havoc with your social life.
Pmsl at hammer head.
If my employer was to tell me not to have food at my desk then they'd actually be shooting themselves in the foot because it would result in me taking more coffee breaks and a full hour lunch break! A lot of office workers eat and drink whilst working, often working through their lunch breaks.
