Can anyone confirm that there were 7 prisoners in the Bastille when it was stormed at the beginning of the French revolution?

Your correct, seven prisoners, political prisoners.
There were 4 forgers, 2 lunatics and 1 deviant aristocrat. The decision to close the Bastille because it was too costly had already been taken before the disturbances began and all prisoners except the 7 had already been transferred elsewhere. The Bastille was stormed simply because it was a Royal symbol.
not sure if the aristocrat in question was still there at the time:

Thank you all
yes the forgers were, tony blair, john prescott, gordon brown and tessa jowell, the 2 lunatics were george bush snr and jrn,and the aristocrat was the little **** lord linley.
Four falsifiers of bills arrested in 1787; two insanes, the Comte Whyte de Malleville, and the accused conspirator Tavernier.....and the "deviant" aristocrat was the Comte de Solages, committed in 1784 by his family for his dissolute lifestyle (incest ) apparently.
..... the parade later in the day of the seven prisoners can be seen at http://tinyurl.com/fao9r ....
Thanks Tatty
