As far as i understand, through free radical polymerisation, different molecular chain lengths and therefore different molecular masses will be produced..... but.....Why are some low molecular mass polymer molecules required in the bulk of a polymer sample?

This distribution of molecular mass is useful in that the smaller molecules have a lubricating effect which is very useful when it come to processing the polymer.
