How long does it take to qualify as a solicitor through the ILEX training route?

ILEX is for the training of legal Executives not solicitors.

But you can use it as a route to qualify as a solicitor further down the line - when I did it- it was a few years ago - it would have taken I think four years to be a fellow of the institue of L.Exec's and then it subsitutes either your Law Degree needed to take articles or some of your articles at least that's how it used to work. Someone else might be able to give a more up to date answer but I will stand corrected if I'm not right.

The time taken to train as a legal executive varies, depending upon whether entry is via a graduate or non-graduate route.

To become a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives, a member has to be at least 25 years old and have had a minimum of 5 years qualifying employment under the supervision of a solicitor. (At least 2 years of this period must be after passing the final examinations).

Fellowship is required to go forward to qualify as a solicitor but, once again, the time span may vary because it's possible to undertake some of the studies (and to take the examinations) before Fellowship is achieved.
