I've just started trying programming and was wondering if anyone can tell me why when I use the key " this comes on the screen @ and when I hit the @ key the " comes up. I'm probably dumb (which is why I'm working from one of the dummies books) but can someone explain cheers.

Windows thinks you have a non-UK keyboard.

Go into the Windows control panel and select Regional and language Options.

Change all the settings to UK (there are 3 or 4 places to do this). Make sure the default keyboard is set to UK.

Save changes then reboot PC.
That sounds like good advice, astondog. Now could you please help me to get hold of qbasic? I long to compile BASIC programs again as I used to do in the days of my trusty old Amstrad. My efforts to obtain qbasic so far haven't worked. Where did you get your qbasic from and who sells the books? Grateful for any help.

Hi chakka
I got a copy of "Beginning programming for dummies" by Wallace Wang (that's what it says) from my local library and it tells you how to load QBASIC. I had to put my 98SE disc into the cdrom and then right click on the start menu and follow instructions from there. Give me a shout if you want me to type out the instructions on here.
Thanks, astondog. I'll try that. Cheers.
