my boyfriend has just joined the army and started training we havnt been together long but i love him to bits & dont want to lose him. im scared that when he comes back he might realise he doesnt want me anymore or that if he does decide to stay its eventually gonna lead to us having to split up, not because i want to.. just because it'll be too hard him being away. what do you think? do relationships with someone in the army ever work? please tell me they do or please somebody tell him to change his mind & come home.

It will be hard but keep in regular, just not overbearing, contact. Write letters (personal touch) and send him photos and treats to remind him of you.
If things do work out in the long term there are usually plenty of couples quarters on barracks.
See it as a chance to enjoy your time apart while you can and go out with your mates and get out and do stuff then make the time you spend together extra special quality time.
I hope it works out for you xxx

I was with my husband for 2 and a half years before we got married. He joined the army before we met and we managed a long distance relationship as he was in Germany and I was in Scotland. It was very hard but got me used to him being away when we did get married. Just be patient. What's meant to be is meant to be. Stay strong x
Hi saturn5,my husband and i have been married for 12 years,he is in iraq at the moment and was posted in northern ireland when we met,it took some getting used too but our love was strong enough to see us through the darkest days and at times i got angry with him for not being there but and i felt left out sometimes but communication really is the key,he will be excited and scared of new situations and its important that you give him the chance to share his feelings with you.You might be full of everyday news that you want to share with him and he`ll be glad of it to take his mind of his stuff.Write plenty of letters, send him cards, ciggies and sweets and tell him that you love him and that your`e proud of him.As bonbon28 said whats meant to be will be.
Hey! my boyf will be joining the army in January. We have been going out for 5 years. I am just as worried as you about what is going to happen to 'us' but my boyf and I have spoken quite alot about the situation and are just going to see how it goes. Him being in the army will obviously put a strain on our relationship but if it is meant to be it is army or no army. Just keep strong and be there when he needs you!
