I had an accident 3 weeks ago. My car is a write off and I have recived a check from the insurer Fortis.
My claim is not settled yet.
I have bought a new car and want to insure it.
Can I change my insurer due to the fact that the cost will increase with Fortis due to my claim.
If I fing cheaper, will there be any cost for leaving Fortis (my insurance only started in April)/ will I get some money back..............
I've never had an accident before and this is my first claim

you will have to pay the remainder of the policy, its stupid moving now,as it will cost you more to move to another company, when your policy is due next year, shop around then.
A new insurer will ask if you`ve had any accidents, better the devil you know at the moment.

In any claim, there is no change to your No Claims Discount until your renewal date. I would advsie you to stay with your current insurer till you receive your renewal notice and look around then. The increase in premium is dependant on your current No Claims Discount. If the accident was your fault and you have 2 years NCD or less, take a deep breath because your renewal premium for next year is liable to double as you will drop back to zero NCD.

thanks. I'm staying with my insurer. they've agreed to put my new car on policy witth no extra fee. I think it's good of them, especially when i've gone up from insurance band 4 to 7 on my new car- or is it standard doing??
