hello

unfortunately the digital boxes that are around usually pass the signal to your telly via a scart connecter on your tv, the aerial wire is usually just a pass through and is used to receive the analogue signal on your telly (after going through the box.)

sounds like a new telly is in order if the coax is the only connection on it.
