Does anyone have any experience of this?

After flooding a square foot of tarmac was missing from the road about 8 inches deep. Since then there has been a lot of vibration through the steering wheel. Hopefully its just a tracking issue but I suspect worse.

Does anybody know what department of the council I should write to, there is no such thing as the Roads Department anymore. Also, I read that the council has to be aware of the fault to be liable for it, is this true?

PS I have photos of the hole in the road

I would have a guess you've bent or buckled either the wheel rim or some part of the suspension or it could be something simple as one of the whell balance weights got knocked off the rim - however - I wish you well in your claim against the appropiate department - they seem to justify rejecting your claim due to the fact that they cannot have every road perfect all of the time.
from what i remember you are right,,,you can only make a claim if someone else has reported the hole,, i knew a cyclist years ago who ended up with a buckled frame after hitting a burst drain but could not claim as no one else had phoned council,,

Thanks.

The thing is the road was so bad that there a number of cars that had their tyres puntured from the impact.
